oh. i actually tried to use screamtracker a decade ago.

figured i could output all modules there

in the sound they were made in for the fansite.

the software was impossible. there wasnt even mouse support.

everything was keybinds.

to make music this way you need a lot of logical processing for your brain.

and obviously know a shit ton of music theory.

i remember trying to find a good

spectrum analyzer / waveform outputter for the fansite

back in the 2010s

i looked all over the internet

and there werent any good ones at all to be found

basically, i realized, if they WERE good enough

you could pirate music by using a 1:1 wav:png rendition

so i suppose thats why the RIAA covertly stops

these projects from forming or even existing in the first place

(but now data is so cheap that theres no point

in stopping this, ok ill try to find one now)

finally i found 1 promising software

except it was a fucking dos program

there was no interface

you had to use a command prompt

i tried it some

but again, GUIs have existed since the early 80s

or even earlier

and to use linux AT ALL

to this day

you have to know how to use them

luckely enough when i started in 1994

the default O/S was just command prompt usage

another problem was in 2020

i wanted to make visualizers for la belle epoque

again, basically no documentation of such online

i even tried buying a CHROMEBOOK

since i figured there were apps

that had the capability?

for example, in later music genres

they have similar looking visualizers

some of these, both sounds and visuals

seem to be made completely on a smartphone

i returned the laptop after a single day

i even tried runescape, but it fucking crashed all the time

didnt find any visualizers of use at all

and just like the port

they were all shoddy worksmanship and crashed constantly

eventually i tried to dedicately

make a FOSS output a visualizer of the sound

for myklevkun

again, this was the only one i found on the entire internet

there was another video recently

i found which seemed to use it

it had a primitive interface

and just as id finished the video

to save it

i accidentally pressed the wrong button

and all my progress was lost

so the viz took literally 8 hours to make

or even more

and thats not counting the rendering time

anyway, i knew thats the only

visualizer i could make with the software

there were some different abilities

the program WAS stable though and wellmade

(save for the clunky save/new project )

but there wasnt much to do

its a shame winamp is as dead as it is nowadays

i tried checking the offical website once in awhile

WINAMP 2.0 COMING SOON

but it never did

now its some flawed

artist subscription

website concept

"aggregator"

the visualizer engine is based on the DOS program

Cthugha

except the one in winamp, over the years

constantly improved and you

could program it in many different ways

using its own language

i actually some viz myself

but gave up quickly

again, because of my flawed

software engineering knowledge

it had quite a communtity back in the days

and winamp later on shipped with

several hundred visualizers

as you might know

winamp has changed ownership many times

back in the days they owned fraunhofer tons

of royalties since the mp3 decoding / encoding

capabilities werent FOSS then

(like LAME/OGG/OPUS in the 2000s)

brb.

ok. had to quit writing for awhile.

lost the flow. cya.

right. i was watching

a vid about tracker history

i stopped at half for this

it got some things wrong

it doesnt mention general midi at all?

anyway, will watch more, seeya around.
